APT is hosted within the Materials Research Institute (MRI) at A.I.T., an interdisciplinary materials science and technology research centre. APT is the leading hub for polymer research and development in Ireland, with AIT playing a key role in supporting the Irish polymer and plastics industry for more than 30 years.
Plastics are a 21st century material driving the development of pioneering innovations to meet society’s biggest challenges. APT Ireland acts as an industry led research hub supporting
Irish-based plastics and polymer companies in creating solutions to overcome current challenges faced by the industry. Products of the Irish plastics and polymer sector are integral to the products
of many other large industrial sectors, including medical devices, pharmaceutical, automotive, packaging and construction, which provide combined exports in excess of €50 billion.
Discovering New Materials, develop New Composits & Design New Production Processes
Enabling basic research is needed to underpin critical breakthroughs that can be used to build better materials, technologies and processes. In addition to its industry driven research agenda, APT supports a variety of basic research programmes that seek to discover new materials, develop new composites and design new production processes that are applicable to the plastics industry. To this end, our polymer team have established an extensive network of distinguished industry, clinical and academic links and have authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications in the last 5 years.
